History of Lamb of God
1968. A few people meet around Dick and Ann Farmer’s kitchen table to talk about starting a new Lutheran Congregation in Lewisville
April 12, 1968. First Worship Services held on April 12 in fellowship hall of First Methodist Church at Herod and Church streets in Lewisville
1979. "Our First Church facility" at 247 West Church Street in Lewisville
1969. Rev. James Mueller is assigned as Missionary at large and in 1970 becomes the first Pastor of Lamb of God
1979. Congregation moves to a new church building at 719 University Place in Lewisville
1982. Pastor Kenneth Fisher Installed as second Pastor
1985. Pastor Norman Schwolert is installed as third Pastor
1989. Congregation opens the Pre-School. At the present time our Preschool is the largest stand-alone pre-school in the Texas District with over 250 children enrolled
1992. The Congregation, now with 700 members, moves to brand present campus at 1401 Cross Timbers Road in Flower Mound, Texas
1994. Installed Wayne Hamit as Sr. Pastor
1997. Installed Dan Delzell as Pastor
2001. Installed Wayne Braun as Sr. Pastor
2001 – Present. The congregation experiences a time of tremendous growth in membership and in the staff. During this period the congregation added a new preschool classroom addition and most recently in 2009 a new adult education classroom addition.
Today the congregation is staffed by three Pastors – Wayne Braun as Senior Pastor, Phil Cook as Associate Pastor for Outreach and Small Groups and Dwain “DJ” Thomsen as Associate Pastor for Youth Ministry. DCE Brandy Simmons serves as our Director of Children’s Ministry, Mr. Chris Winston is our Director of Music Ministry, assisted by his wife Rebecca as Director of Choral Ministry, Scott Sandberg as Director of our Orchestra and Jason Barnhart is our sound technician. Linda Braun, is the Director of the Early Childhood Ministry. Dick Lasch serves part time as our Director of Care Ministry. Gail DeBenedictis is our Director of Operations and is assisted by Chad Faust as our Maintenance Tech for the building. Dawn Wendorf is the Administrative Assistant in the Church Office and Kim MacDougall is the Administrative Assistant in the Early Childhood Ministry. Marybeth Hurd serves as Curriculum Coordinator of the Early Childhood Ministry which is also staffed by many excellent teachers and assistants.
In 2011 the congregation began a new strategic planning process called “Mission 2020.” The goal of Mission 2020 is to discern how God has uniquely shaped Lamb of God and its members for ministry in His Kingdom here in the Dallas area and around the world.
